About the Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select drip coffee maker

The Technivorm is handmade and built to last.

To affirm its quality from the start, the Moccamaster drip coffee maker is handmade in the Netherlands by Dutch coffee aficionados. It has a simple, mid-century modern design with an exposed water reservoir, and comes inmore than 20 colors.

Unlike other coffee brewers, the Moccamaster is built with a unique copper boiling element, and brews coffee at an optimal temperature range between 196°F and 205°F.

In addition to precise water temperature, the Moccamaster uses a burst technique to bloom the coffee grounds before fully brewing. This combination mimics pour-over style coffee and produces a smoother cup compared to other drip coffee machines.

The Moccamaster coffee maker features a full/half carafe selector, which adjusts the brewing speed and hotplate temperature according to your choice.

It also brews a full 32-ounce pot of coffee in about six minutes, which is significantly faster than going through the process ofpour-over coffee, but much less work. But if you can’t wait for that first cup, the brew basket automatically stops the flow of coffee when you remove the carafe during brewing.

What we like

It brews the perfect cup of coffee

This machine delivers tasty hot coffee at the perfect temperature every time.

Coffee-brewing is always a situation where you get out what you put in, so if you’re starting with high-quality coffee beans that you love, then you’ll love the results of the Moccamaster.

It brews like pour-over, but it’s hands-off. With its perfect temperature control and burst-style brewing method, you get a cup that’s as tasty as pour-over—without having to stand at the counter, gooseneck kettlein hand.

We also like that the Moccamaster’s hotplate maintains the coffee on its heated console between 175ºF and 185ºF, keeping it at a desirable drinking temperature while ensuring it won’t burn.

Its beautiful design is countertop-worthy

The Technivorm Moccamaster KBGV Select comes in more than 20 colors, including midnight blue and rose gold.

With its mid-century design and exposed reservoir, you'll want to leave the Moccamaster out on the counter even when it’s not in use. Plus, it comes in a staggering array of beautiful colors to suit any kitchen aesthetic.

It’s built to last, so it’s worth the investment

Many say that the Moccamaster is built to last a lifetime, and indeed, we’ve been testing ours for years now and it still functions as if it were new.

Reviewed Editor-in-ChiefDavid Kenderloves to rave about how amazing his Moccamaster is, saying “I’ve owned my Moccamaster for more than a decade. It’s the single most valuable product purchase I’ve made. Every morning when I take my first sip I say ‘this is the best cup of coffee I’ve ever had.’ Chances are I’ll be saying it tomorrow, too.”

Since it’s widely considered the best coffee maker that money can buy, it should come as no surprise that the Moccamaster usually retails around $350. While that’s a large chunk of change for most of us, if you make coffee every day and would like a better-tasting cup for years to come, the Moccamaster is the right investment to make.

Think about how much money you will save in the long run—on coffee shop runs or buying cheaper, less durable coffee makers every two-to-three years. It’s potentiallymillions of dollars, according to one author.

What we don’t like

It requires proprietary filters

Proprietary filters are a small downside to the Moccamaster drip coffee maker.

The filter basket for the Moccamaster coffee maker requires special filters that are cone-shaped, rather than the standard basket-shaped coffee filters you’re probably familiar with. While some specialty stores may carry these filters, it’s more likely you’ll need to order them online.

Thankfully, Amazon carries theNo. 4 Moccamaster filter, and the last time we needed a box it was available for next-day deliver. But it does require slightly more planning than a quick trip to the grocery store.

It’s not programmable

The Moccamaster doesn't have a lot of bells and whistles, with just two switches—on to select pot size and the other to turn it on and off.

If you’re the type who needs to have your coffee the second you wake up, the Moccamaster may pose a challenge. Its controls are simple: There's a switch to select a half or full carafe, and an on/off switch. It doesn’t have a timer or any type of programmable settings, so you can’t set it to brew at a specific time.

Althoughfreshly ground coffeewill always give you the best flavor, you can prep everything the night before so all you have to do is flip the switch and wait a few minutes for the coffee to brew.

The Reviewed Kitchen team is serious about coffee, historically brewingpour-overormoka potcoffee for ourselves every morning. That is, until we tried the Moccamaster. Its pour-over brewing style—without the work of pour-over—makes it appealing for busy mornings (and aren’t they all?), as well as any time we’re entertaining.

The taste of coffee from the Moccamaster beats out every other drip coffee maker we’ve ever tried. There may not be programmable settings and customizable options, but if you value a simple, excellent cup of coffee, the Technivorm Moccamaster will deliver.
